Department of Water
Online Communication Projects
Creative Nature was contracted by the WA Department of Water to develop an efficient and innovative online presence reflecting the agency's position as peak authority on water policy in WA.
The project currently involves five separate work packages - a new corporate website; new intranet and online induction system for 700 staff; development of a curriculum-based elearning resource centre for school teachers and students K-12; and development of an online information toolkit promoting alternative water sources to local government authorities and urban property developers.
As a result of stakeholder research, Creative Nature Communications created a dynamic user interface to accommodate a complex navigation structure and discreet separation of each major section in the website. The webpage layout incorporated an integrated publication feed, split level navigation system and related page links. Individual skins or page templates, with associated style sheets, were created for 15 sections of the website, together with an explanatory user guide for website administrators. This ensured new web pages would maintain consistent presentation once the site launched and handed over to the Department.
Stakeholder Engagement - A tailored engagement process comprising workshops, indepth interviews and online surveys was developed to identify opportunities and assess the information needs of internal and external stakeholders.
Resource Audit – This phase aimed to identify relevant information, owned by the Department other private and public sector agencies, and to make it available to a wide public user base via the internet.
Innovative Delivery - Each component in the new online technology suite utilises Creative Nature’s sophisticated web content management system and online database for dynamic content delivery. Significant emphasis was placed on ease of maintenance, management and updating by non-technical personnel. Extensive user-search capabilities have been developed based on meta tags, keywords and unique document identifiers. These descriptors have been incorporated into the Department’s library catalogue which provides version control and a central store of all master copies.
